We've got a 2008 Honda Fit Sport, automatic, with about 147K miles on it. It gets regular preventative maintenance service from the dealership. It's recently developed a slight stutter in the engine under very specific circumstances.

My wife told me about this; she said it happened while idling at a dead stop, and also at highway speeds around 2250-2500 rpm.

While I can't confirm the stutter at idle, I can definitely confirm the stutter at highway speed and could consistently reproduce it while driving today between 55-65 miles per hour in top gear. Cruise control was off, speed was maintained manually. When I gently applied more throttle, enough to raise the RPMs ever-so-slightly, I'd feel the stutter.

It feels like a half-second judder, slightly rough, and then back to normal operation. Almost as if you'd driven over a couple of catseye reflectors.

Otherwise, the performance of the car is unaffected, but the stutter is enough to make my wife worry, and therefore I am reaching out for possible answers especially if it's something I can fix myself.

Thoughts? I'm thinking a dirty throttle body since it happens only at a very narrow band of revs and speeds, but that's a shot in dark to be honest.

EDIT: Thanks for the advice; I've priced ignition coils and found some install videos that make this out to be an easy fix. Might as well change the plugs while I'm at it. I'll leave this 'unsolved' for the time being, until repairs can be made, but I think you've all nailed the problem.

Second Edit: Just replaced the ignition coils and the spark plugs. No more judder, and I daresay it's a bit more sprightly. The plugs had never been changed in the lifetime of the car; they were still the stock NGK ones. The tips were worn down to thin cones. Thanks for the advice, folks!
